St. John Mary Vianney
August 4, 2017

The feast of the Cure of Ars, model and patron of parish priests, is celebrated on the anniversary of his death.  He was canonized in 1925 bu Pope Pius XI, who also named him patron saint of the parochial clergy in 1929.

He was a compassionate spiritual confessor who spent usually no less than eleven hours every day in the confessional in the winter, sixteen hours in the summer.  He was born near Lyon, France in 1786.  He died in 1859 at the age of 74, of exhaustion, and as he had predicted, peacefully and without fear.
