FRANCISCAN BROTHERS of the Holy Cross
IN CRUCE VICTORIA The Congregation of Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross is a religious community of vowed men who share in the Mission of Jesus by serving the needs of people and the Church in the tradition of St. Francis.
WHO WE ARE

OUR RULE OF LIFE
OUR FOUNDER
OUR RULE OF LIFE
OUR VOWS

We are inspired by the way St. Francis saw and felt the presence of the living God in all of creation: in the sun and moon, the stars, birds and trees, nature, water, fire, as well as in simplicity, humility and simple things.

After his ‘metanoia’ or conversion from his worldly life, Francis and his followers petitioned the Pope to approve their way of life as a religious order, The Order of Friars Minor.

This image of Jesus on the cross is a centerpiece of our Franciscan identity. It spoke to Francis to "rebuild my Church" which was falling into ruin.  Francis's simple, humble and charismatic lifestyle was the catalyst for reform in the 13th century.

Other women and men inspired by St. Francis wanted to follow the Franciscan way of life. The Third Order Regular of St. Francis provides the way for religious communities to follow, which we still live by today.

This Third Order Rule establishes our community identity and to which we commit to faithfully and joyfully:

  • observe the Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ
  • live in obedience, in poverty and in chastity
  • live life in a spirit of prayer, of poverty, and of humility.
  • promise obedience and reverence to the Pope and the Holy Catholic Church.
  • obey those called to be ministers and servants of our own fraternity
  • foster unity and communion with all the members of the Franciscan family
  • honor the Spirit of God at work within us

As members of a religious community of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, we are connected to one another through our vocation to religious life, through our profession of the same rule and through our life shared in common. We are also orientated to all people—we do not live for ourselves alone but we are obliged in love to serve everybody.
